Genevieve (Ziemba) Sandej grew up as a second generation American in Cleveland, Ohio. She speaks about growing up in the Warzawa neighborhood near St. Stanislaus Church and living there her whole life. Mrs. Sandej speaks about the Polish customs and about acquiring Polish as a second language. Mrs. Sandej was the first woman president of the Alliance of Poles which is in Michigan, Pennsylvania and Ohio. She talks about the Alliance of Poles purpose and their assistance to Poles in the U.S. and Poland. Mrs. Sandej, through her work with the Alliance of the Poles, helped individuals with their relocation to and settlement in Cleveland, Ohio.
