Hippie Leader Levy Gets 6 Months in Jail

D. A. Levy, the self-styled poet laureate of Cleveland’s University Circle hippies, was sentenced to a six-month term in the Warrensville Workhouse yesterday for conduct tending to cause the delinquency of minors.

Presideing Judge Albert A. Woldman of Juvenile Court also fined Levy, 25, $100 and court cost but stayed execution of both fine and sentence pending a probation report.

Charges against Levy, 1744 Wymore Avenue, East Cleveland, stemmed from high school narcotics incidents involving students from University, Shaker and Cleveland Heights more than a year ago.

DEFENCE lawyers Gerald S. Gold and Bernard A. Berkman said Levy pleaded no contest to the charges. They offered no defence during the 45-minute hearing.

Assistant Country Prosecutor George J. Moscarino told the court Levy as editor of a hippie literary magizine titled "No. 465" solicited and accepted for publication indecent and immoral writings by a 17 year-old boy.
