Defining "Digital Library"
The term "digital library" escapes precise definition, often being used interchangably with "virtual library," or "electronic library." Here are some discussions to help you understand how different people see it.
The Cleveland Digital Library is so named because 1) the content appears in digital form and 2) the intent of the site is to provide access to information, as libraries have traditionally done. We might have called it a "virtual library," but didn't. We did, however, use the term "Virtual Cleveland History" as a sub-title, to indicate that we were pulling together in one place all the digital content on Cleveland history we could create or find on the Web.
However termed, we hope you enjoy the Cleveland Digital Library and find it useful.
